The modern Defender is configured like a smartphone: the hardware is common, and the trim level decides what the menus show. That means a base vehicle often carries the same modules as a loaded one — with features simply disabled in configuration.
Smartphone integration first
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto top the request list, and for good reason: most L663s built from 2021 carry compatible infotainment hardware whether or not the option box was ticked. A VIN check settles it in minutes, and the activation itself takes less time than pairing a phone.
The towing essentials
Fit a tow bar without coding and the car pretends it does not exist — stability systems stay blind to the trailer and lighting errors accumulate. Proper tow-module coding gives the Defender factory trailer behaviour: sway control, lighting checks and the correct dashboard view.
Cameras and expedition power
Retrofitted cameras need activation and calibration; auxiliary power for fridges and lighting needs managed correctly so the battery protection logic does not cut your campsite at midnight. Both are routine work for us — and both are jobs we would rather do right than see bodged twice.
Every activation we perform is logged against your VIN, so a future software update or dealer visit can be reversed or restored cleanly. That record is worth as much as the feature itself.
